Getting started with Talk Klavini

A short guide to interpreted calls — what each side hears, when to pause, how to end the call cleanly, and how to set up call forwarding from your phone provider.

What is Talk Klavini?

An AI telephone assistant for anyone in the UK whose first language isn’t English. We give you a brand-new UK mobile number. When someone rings it, our assistant LILY answers in English, takes a message, and sends you the summary by SMS in your own language. On paid plans she can also put the caller through using a live AI interpreter that translates both directions in real time.

Talk Klavini was originally built for Russian-speaking residents in the UK — still the largest community we serve — but the same product now works for any of the 54 supported languages, on the call and in the SMS summary.

What happens when someone calls your UK number

  1. Your Talk Klavini number rings on your personal mobile for 10 seconds.
  2. If you don’t answer, the call diverts to Talk Klavini.
  3. LILY answers in English.
  4. She asks the caller for their name and reason for calling.
  5. She sends you an SMS in your chosen language summarising the call.
  6. Or: if the caller asks, LILY offers to put you through via the AI interpreter with live translation in both directions.

Talking through the interpreter

The interpreter listens to you, waits for a clear pause, then translates the segment to the other side. A few habits make a big difference.

Speak in short segments and pause clearly

The interpreter starts translating after roughly 0.4 seconds of silence following your last word. Aim for one or two sentences, then stop. The other side hears the translation, replies in their language, and you hear that in yours. Then you take your next turn.

Don’t talk over the other person

While their translated audio is still playing, don’t start your reply. If you do, the system has to choose what to translate first and bits get dropped. Wait for the translated audio to finish before speaking.

The voice you hear is AI

The voice on the line is the interpreter, not your real conversation partner’s voice. You may briefly hear the original voice at low volume before the translation comes through — that’s normal.

Ending a call cleanly

This is especially important if English isn’t your first language — there’s no obvious cue that tells the other side the call is over in your language.

  • When the conversation is finished and you’ve said goodbye, hang up clearly — press the red button or put the receiver down.
  • If you leave the line open after saying bye, the other side will hear silence and may not know the call has ended. Just hang up.
  • The non-paying side will briefly hear “This call was translated by Talk Klavini.” before the line drops. That’s the signal the conversation has ended cleanly.

Call quality and signal strength

Translation quality is only as good as the audio our system receives. If the AI can’t hear you cleanly, it can’t translate you cleanly.

Calls from a basement, an underground station, a moving train, or any weak-signal area will give the AI gaps and noise — and translations will be incomplete or wrong. The same applies if the other side is on a poor line.

For best results

  • Be in a quiet place with full mobile signal.
  • Use WiFi calling if your carrier supports it and you’re indoors with weak mobile signal.
  • Avoid speakerphone in noisy environments — hold the phone to your ear or use a headset.
  • Don’t cover the microphone with your hand or a case.
  • If the call sounds bad, hang up and ring back from somewhere quieter — minutes spent on a noisy call rarely produce a useful result.

Setting up call divert (the most important bit)

This is what makes Talk Klavini work for missed calls on your existing number. You type a short code into your phone’s dialler — it’s called an MMI code. The same code works on every UK network — Three, O2, EE, Vodafone and the rest.

Turn on “forward the calls I don’t answer”

You’re telling your phone to forward only the calls you don’t pick up — after about 10 seconds of ringing — to your Talk Klavini number, so LILY can answer them. Two codes do it: one to clear any forwarding that’s already set, then one to switch on the new divert. Type each one into your phone’s dialler exactly as shown, then press the call/green button.

First, clear any existing forwarding:

##002#

Then switch on the divert for unanswered calls:

**61*<your Talk Klavini number>*11*10#

Where each piece of the divert code means:

  • **61*the standard UK code for “divert when I don’t answer”.
  • <your Talk Klavini number>your Talk Klavini number, typed with no spaces in international format (for example +447476922354).
  • *11voice calls only (don’t forward data or fax).
  • *10#wait about 10 seconds before diverting (roughly 2–3 rings).

The code above uses a placeholder where your number goes. The exact code — with your own Talk Klavini number already filled in — is shown in your dashboard, ready to copy.

MMI codes travel over your network's signalling channel, which is separate from the call itself and can be affected by signal strength or network load. Your phone may show an error even when the code reached the operator — the confirmation just didn't make it back. Simply try again. In areas with weaker reception, 5–10 attempts before it sticks is not unusual; moving to a window or stepping outside usually speeds things up. The code always goes through eventually.

If the codes don’t work
On iPhone (iOS)
  1. Open Settings → Phone → Call Forwarding
  2. Switch Call Forwarding on
  3. Enter your Talk Klavini number as the forward-to number, then tap back to save

On Android
  1. Open Settings → Phone (or Calls) → Call Forwarding
  2. Tap "Forward when unanswered" (sometimes labelled "Conditional forwarding")
  3. Enter your Talk Klavini number and confirm

Exact menu names vary by brand — Samsung calls it "Call forwarding", Google Pixel says "Forwarding", etc.

Still not working? Call your mobile provider

These dialling codes don’t work on every phone — some handsets and some mobile networks don’t support them. The foolproof way is to call your mobile provider and ask them to set up “call forwarding when unanswered” (after about 10 seconds) to your Talk Klavini number. They can switch it on for you.

Tell them: "Please enable conditional call forwarding on no answer, after 10 seconds, to" and read out your Talk Klavini number.

Need help? Call your provider

Call your mobile network and ask them to forward unanswered calls (after about 10 seconds) to your Talk Klavini number above.

Numbers checked June 2026 — your provider may have changed them. The short code is free to dial from your own network’s SIM; the longer number works from any phone.

What callers hear

When your number rings unanswered for about 10 seconds, the call goes to LILY. This is what callers hear:

Hi, this is LILY — AI assistant. I can take a message or connect you through our AI interpreter. How can I help?

FAQ

Is the interpreter a real person?

No, it's AI — there is nobody from Klavini Labs listening to your calls. It uses the latest AI speech technology for a natural, fluent conversation.

Can I keep my existing phone number?

Yes — you keep your own number and SIM. We also give you a new UK number; you set up call divert so the calls you can’t answer quietly forward to it and LILY picks up. Prefer to skip divert? You can simply share the new number instead.

What if I don’t speak Russian?

You’re fine. Talk Klavini supports 54 languages on both sides — the call and the SMS summary.

The product was originally built for Russian-speaking UK residents but Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Hindi, Mandarin and the rest of the 54 work identically.

How accurate is the translation?

Best-effort, using the latest AI speech technology. The translation is natural and fast, but it is not a substitute for a qualified human interpreter on legal, medical or financial calls.

Can people call me from abroad? Can I call abroad?

Incoming — yes. Your Talk Klavini number is a normal UK number, so friends, family and businesses can call it from anywhere in the world. They simply pay their own provider’s usual rate for calling the UK; it costs you nothing extra and uses your minutes like any other call.

Outgoing — UK only. Calls you make through LILY connect to UK numbers only; international destinations aren’t available.

Can I make calls out, not just receive them?

Yes. From your phone, call your own Talk Klavini number and LILY places the call, interpreting the whole conversation both ways, live. By default she interprets between your language and English — just type the UK number on your keypad and press hash (#).

Your dashboard has a switch for this in the outbound section. Leave it off to interpret between your language and English, or turn it on and LILY will ask which language to interpret to at the start of each call — handy if you speak English yourself, or to reach someone who speaks neither your language nor English. Outgoing calls connect to UK numbers only and work best when a real person answers.

What happens when my plan minutes run out?

New incoming calls are blocked until your next billing cycle. Whitelisted numbers still get through. Counters reset on your billing date.

How do I cancel?

Dashboard → Billing → Manage subscription → Cancel. Takes effect at end of paid period.

Can I get a refund?

You have a 14-day statutory right to cancel from your first payment. Because the service starts immediately, a pro-rata deduction is made for the days used — the rest is refunded automatically. After 14 days, no refund is given; your plan runs until the end of the paid period.

I set up the divert but it isn’t working — what now?

Don't worry — it usually takes a few tries. If the code returns an error, enter it again until it goes through; this is normal and outside our control. As a backup, your mobile provider can enable call forwarding for you over the phone — and your dashboard has the full step-by-step guide.

What if there’s an outage?

Calls simply ring out — your personal mobile is unaffected. We monitor uptime and communicate planned maintenance by email.

Still stuck?

Email [email protected] for anything not covered above. We answer within about 24 hours, Monday to Friday.
